Adel Abdessemed's Monumental Drawings at Galleria Continua Rome

Galleria Continua has reopened its venue at the St. Regis Hotel in Rome, showcasing a solo exhibition by Adel Abdessemed, which features large-scale charcoal drawings. Born in Constantine, Algeria, in 1971, Abdessemed elevates the act of drawing, maintaining its intimate characteristics. His pieces reveal the creative journey, including smudges, fingerprints, and tears. Lorenzo Fiaschi, one of the gallery's founders, emphasizes how Abdessemed's instinctive strokes transform the mundane into striking visuals. The exhibition, titled “Primavera Romana” (Roman Spring), spans works from 2010 to 2025, centering on Christian iconography and still life. Abdessemed refers to it as “an intimate dialogue with the Eternal City,” delving into themes of beauty and danger, with the pomegranate symbolizing life and peril.
