ADAT Studio Wins Rome Science Museum Competition with 'Science Forest'

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Rome's long-awaited Museo della Scienza will be realized by local firm ADAT Studio, which won an international competition judged by Daniel Libeskind. The project, named Science Forest, transforms a former military electronics factory in the Flaminio district into a museum with a large public park, a suspended park, and a bioclimatic passive box that self-regulates temperature. The jury praised its urban dialogue with nearby MAXXI and its flexible exhibition spaces, including suspended capsules for digital and immersive displays. The museum will feature a semi-transparent roof with photovoltaic cells, a preserved masonry facade, and a public piazza accessible even outside hours. Construction is slated to begin by 2025, with completion expected by 2028, backed by a €75 million investment from CDP Real Asset SGR. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri hopes for a 2027 opening. ADAT co-founders Antonio Atripaldi and Andrea Debilio emphasized the project's public dimension and integration of nature, science, and technology.
