Adam Szymczyk Appointed Director of Swiss Architecture Museum Basel
Adam Szymczyk, who previously served as the artistic director for documenta 14, will take on the role of director at the Swiss Architecture Museum Basel (S AM) starting in 2026. He will replace Andreas Ruby, who has been at the helm for a decade. Originally from Poland, Szymczyk studied art history in Warsaw and completed his curatorial training at De Appel in Amsterdam. He led Kunsthalle Basel from 2002 to 2014, overseeing more than 80 exhibitions. Additionally, he co-curated the 5th Berlin Biennale in 2008 and was the artistic director for documenta 14 in 2017. Currently, he works as a freelance writer and curator and teaches at various institutions, expressing excitement about exploring architecture’s political aspects in his upcoming role at S AM.
