Adam Richards Architects designs wellness centre at Mayfield School in East Sussex
Adam Richards Architects, recognized with the Wallpaper* House of the Year 2020 award for Nithurst Farm, has finalized the St. Raphael's Health & Wellbeing Centre at Mayfield School in East Sussex, UK. This facility integrates medical care, counseling, and education under one roof. Commissioned in 2020, the design replaces the previous infirmary with a structure influenced by Renaissance fortifications and medieval monasteries, showcasing curves, unique openings, and vibrant colors. Constructed mainly from cross-laminated timber (CLT) and natural limestone brick, it features a tranquil 'secret garden' at its core. Founder Adam Richards emphasized the goal of creating a modern, contextually aware building that prioritizes wellbeing and sustainability, serving over 350 girls at the Catholic boarding and day school.
