Adam Fuss Presents Autobiographical Installation at Cheim and Read
From October 16 to November 15, 2003, Cheim and Read hosts Adam Fuss's second exhibition with the gallery, emphasizing a strong autobiographical theme. The artist, originally from Britain and now based in New York, is celebrated for his contemporary photograms depicting organic forms. This exhibition features a three-part installation comprising 105 oval enamel plaques showcasing his childhood portraits, evoking gravestone imagery. In the main gallery, viewers will find mirror-surface daguerreotypes of skulls alongside two silver gelatin photograms depicting a child's arms and a male profile. Additionally, a separate space presents "Adam Fuss, circa 1965" (2003), a lifelike silicone representation of the artist at age 11, blending 19th-century photogram techniques with modern exploration of themes like transformation and mortality.
