Adalberto Abbate Opens Spazio Rivoluzione in Palermo

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Artist Adalberto Abbate (born 1975 in Palermo) has founded Spazio Rivoluzione, an independent exhibition space in Palermo's historic center, on Piazza della Rivoluzione. The square was the site of 1848 uprisings against the Bourbon kingdom, and its fountain bears an inscription referencing liberty. The space, located in a former warehouse inside an ancient palazzo, opened in September 2018 with the group show 'Fango vol.1', featuring works by Jota Castro, Mario Consiglio, Sandro Mele, Calixto Ramirez, Franko B, Santiago Sierra, and Abbate himself. The exhibition runs until December 28. Abbate emphasizes the space's independence and self-financing model, aiming to foster political consciousness in contemporary art. 'Fango' will travel to other cities in Europe and the world, growing in number and diversity of artists. The project is supported by artist Calixto Ramirez and art historian Maria Luisa Montaperto, who contributed texts.
