Activists spray-paint Woodside logo on McCubbin painting at AGWA
In Perth, two activists from the Disrupt Burrup Hub group defaced Frederick McCubbin's 1889 painting, Down on His Luck, at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. They spray-painted the logo of Woodside, an oil and gas company, over the artwork, which was protected by a perspex cover. Additionally, they laid an Aboriginal flag on the floor, while one protester glued her hand to the wall. Their demonstration aimed to draw attention to what they see as Woodside's destruction of sacred Murujuga rock art, linked to Australia's largest fossil fuel project. Joana Partyka, one of the protesters, stated, "Woodside is branding while polluting sacred art. We need to stop industrial activity before there's nothing left." Woodside denies damaging the rock art.
