Acqua Foundation Launches in Palermo at Manifesta 12

Aurelia Musumeci Greco has founded Acqua Foundation, a new nonprofit that merges environmental advocacy with contemporary art. The foundation will debut at Manifesta 12 in Palermo in 2018, co-producing a site-specific work by Michael Wang at the Orto Botanico. Greco, daughter of collectors Ines and the late Giuliano Musumeci Greco, grew up immersed in art and aims to use it as a tool for political and ecological reflection. The foundation, still largely under wraps, will have dual offices in Rome and Milan. It emerged from discussions among a group of friends—professionals from various fields—who sought to create value by addressing climate change. Water was chosen as the central theme due to its global urgency. Greco's background in communication and television production informs her approach. The foundation will collaborate with Casa Musumeci Greco, her parents' collection, to develop an art section dedicated to water. Manifesta 12's focus on climate change and migration made Palermo the ideal launch site.
