Acqua Foundation Expands to Venice, Cannes, and Sicily with Environmental Art Projects

institutional · 2026-04-27

So, the Acqua Foundation kicked off in Palermo back in 2018 during Manifesta 12, and it’s still on this mission to use art to spark conversations about water-related political and environmental issues. The founders—Cecilia Ago, Gabriele Bonfiglioli, Giuseppe di Vita, Aurelia Musumeci Greco, and Federico Riggio—shared some news about what they’ve been up to. At the Venice Biennale, they teamed up with artist Andreco, who handed out cool reusable cardboard water bottles to help cut down on single-use plastics. He also painted a mural on the Canal Grande about climate change and acqua alta. On May 23, they collaborated with the Flatform collective at the Cannes Film Festival for a documentary about Tuvalu and have plans for a big project in Sicily too.
