ACE Hotel London Hosts Custom Design Objects During London Design Week

During the 2019 London Design Week and Frieze Art Fair, ACE Hotel Shoreditch presented an exhibition exploring hospitality and sustainable customization. Designers Fabien Cappello, BCXSY Studio, Raw Edges, and Diego Faivre created functional objects for the hotel's bar, restaurant, and rooftop. Cappello designed jugs and cutlery combining gold and traditional forms; BCXSY Studio made room dividers; Raw Edges produced kilim rugs; and Faivre transformed doorstops into pop art and ran a pop-up Minute Manufacture Factory where visitors could customize objects for one pound. The objects will be used daily, and Faivre's doorstops will be sold on the hotel's website from November 1. Universal Design Studio designed the hotel in 2013 with a minimalist aesthetic reflecting East London's industrial heritage. Jason Holley, director of Universal Design Studio, stated the project seals the connection between Shoreditch's historical context and typical materials. Kelly Sawdon, partner and chief brand officer of ACE, noted Shoreditch was the ideal place to gather internationally recognized designers to create functional and idiosyncratic objects.
