Accents: Russian Artists Invade Florence's Museo Marino Marini
The Museo Marino Marini in Florence presents 'Accents', a group exhibition curated by Dimitri Ozerkov, the museum's visiting director for 2019. The show features three Russian artists: Ivan Plusch, Irina Drozd, and Andrey Kuzkin. Plusch's installation 'Nove cerchi di vita' (Nine Circles of Life), a red ribbon-like strip referencing Dante, snakes through the deconsecrated church. In the crypt, Drozd's large canvases, hung with clothespins, address female oppression, inspired by the site's history as a Benedictine nunnery and Marino Marini's sculpture 'Giovinetta' (1938). Kuzkin's performance-based work explores disease and mortality, featuring a video of himself sealed in a transparent sarcophagus and breadcrumb sculptures referencing Russian prison crafts. The exhibition concludes in the Rucellai Chapel with three engravings of biblical heroines Judith, Jael, and Delilah, presented by Ozerkov. The museum's 2019 program aims to invite international directors to foster continuous cultural experimentation.
