institutional · 2026-04-27

The renovated galleries of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca in Rome have reopened, featuring significant works from 18th and 19th-century donations. President Francesco Cellini highlighted that the exhibition showcases masterpieces by renowned artists such as Anton van Dyck and Pieter Paul Rubens, alongside terracotta bozzetti by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Vincenzo Danti. Many of these artworks were previously stored away. The Accademia's collection comprises 1,500 paintings and a variety of sculptures. The first gallery displays around 50 portraits, while the second features ten prints by Antonio Canova. Upcoming exhibitions will present 20th-century art. With 90 members, the Accademia grants the Premio Presidente della Repubblica each year. Admission is free, although a small ticket fee is being considered.
