Accademia Carrara Reopens with Cecco del Caravaggio Show

exhibition · 2026-04-27

On January 28, 2023, the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo reopened its doors following a renovation that began in 2015, spearheaded by architect Antonio Ravalli. The revamped facility now features a reception area and a space designated for future restorations on the ground floor, while the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions, including shows in 2023 focused on Naoki Ishikawa and history painting/melodrama. The second floor houses sixteen permanent galleries displaying 300 artworks. A unique staircase installation titled 'Conversazioni Sacre' by Fallen Fruit incorporates local flora. By summer 2023, visitors can also enjoy a transparent walkway, a bistrot, and the expansive 3,000-square-meter Giardini di PwC. The €4 million project has attracted European interest. The opening exhibition, 'Cecco del Caravaggio. L'Allievo Modello,' showcases 42 pieces, 19 of which are by Cecco. Director Maria Cristina Rodeschini highlighted the initiative's goal to inspire new concepts in the post-pandemic era.
