Accademia Carrara Opens Public Garden in Bergamo
The Accademia Carrara in Bergamo is completing its transformation with the opening of a 3,000-square-meter public garden on September 20. The garden, named Giardini PwC after sponsor PwC Italia, connects to the museum via a walkway and includes a new bistrot. The project, designed by architect Antonio Ravalli with INOUT architettura, features terraced spaces for relaxation and cultural programming. It is funded by Regione Lombardia (€1.6 million), the Comune di Bergamo, and PwC Italia. The garden occupies land adjacent to the historic museum, previously unused. It includes ephemeral wooden sculptures by street artist Il Sedicente Moradi, depicting bears, crocodiles, deer, and wolves, previously shown at Torre PwC in Milan. The bistrot, Bù Bistrot in Carrara, is run by Francesco Maroni and Luca Guerini of Finlatt S.r.l., known for Bù Cheese Bar. The garden aims to enhance the museum's European dimension and aligns with Bergamo's 'Città natura' concept from its 2023 Italian Capital of Culture year. The museum has a new director, Martina Bagnoli, since early 2024. The project completes a renovation that began with the permanent collection reinstallation in 2022.
