Accademia Carrara Honors Raphael with Video on His Birth and Death Anniversary

On April 6, 2018, Accademia Carrara in Bergamo celebrated Raphael on the anniversary of his birth (April 6, 1483) and death (April 6, 1520) with a video homage. The tribute, tied to the exhibition 'Raffaello e l'eco del mito' (on view until May 6), features a sequence of paintings from the show and includes Raphael's self-portrait from the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence. The video traces the myth of Raphael through works by artists before, during, and after his time, including Perugino, Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio, Marco D'Oggiono, Mariella Bettineschi, Salvo, Francesco Vezzoli, and Luigi Ontani. Key pieces shown are Raphael's 'San Sebastiano' (1502-03) from Accademia Carrara's collection, Perugino's 'Santa Maria Maddalena', Boltraffio's 'Ritratto di giovane come San Sebastiano', Marco D'Oggiono's version, 'Ritratto di donna (La Fornarina)' from Palazzo Barberini in Rome, Bettineschi's contemporary take, Salvo's 'Autoritratto come Raffaello', Vezzoli's 'Self Portrait as a Self Portrait (After Raffaello Sanzio)', and Raphael's self-portrait from around 1504-1506 from the Uffizi.
