ABS-CBN Loses License Amid Media Crackdown; Baltic Triennial Curators Named; Detroit Museum Director on Leave

other · 2026-04-20

Lawmakers in the Philippines decided against renewing the license of ABS-CBN, the country's largest broadcaster, following threats from President Rodrigo Duterte after the network declined to air his campaign advertisements in 2016. In May, the National Telecommunications Commission ceased its television broadcasts. In July 2021, Valentinas Klimašauskas and João Laia will curate the 14th Baltic Triennial at CAC Vilnius. Thaddaeus Ropac is providing €5,000 grants to 20 artists in Salzburg, with applications due by 1 August. The PAD London 2020 event has been postponed until next year. Elysia Borowy-Reeder is currently on leave amid bias allegations at MOCAD. Museums in Victoria have closed because of COVID-19, and the Liverpool Biennial is now set for 20 March – 6 June 2021. Additionally, Sohrab Mohebbi has been appointed curator for the 58th Carnegie International in 2022.
