Abigail Lazkoz and Frank Lloyd Wright at Sala Rekalde and Guggenheim Bilbao

Two concurrent exhibitions in Bilbao showcase the work of Abigail Lazkoz and Frank Lloyd Wright. Lazkoz, born in 1972 in Bilbao and based in New York, presents drawings that extend beyond traditional boundaries through movement, fragmentation, and spatial engagement. Her work at Sala Rekalde (October 8, 2009 – January 31, 2010) explores geometric forms, comic strip sequences, narrative slopes, and the interplay of black-and-white with color, as well as compact and fluid states via animation video, stacked paintings, and three-dimensional structures. The exhibition aims to immerse viewers within the drawing itself, activating them within its "extraordinary machine." Simultaneously, the Musée Guggenheim (October 22, 2009 – February 14, 2010) features Frank Lloyd Wright (1867–1959), architect of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. The exhibition includes models, drawings, photographs, books, and animations honoring Wright's modernist architecture, emphasizing the harmony of form and function, and the integration of transparent, resilient interiors with the surrounding environment. Wright's drawings reflect an innocence that embraces imagination to confront real-world imperatives, balancing audacity with virtuosity.
