ABERTO Platform's Fifth Edition Opens Casa Bola and Expands to Public Spaces in São Paulo

exhibition · 2026-03-20

The ABERTO platform, founded by Filipe Assis in 2022, has launched its fifth edition in São Paulo, running from March 8 to May 31, 2026. This iteration marks a significant expansion, featuring two main components: a major exhibition at Casa Bola, an iconic spherical house designed by Eduardo Longo between 1974 and 1979, which is opening to the public for the first time, and a new initiative called ABERTO Rua, which involves over 15 commissioned artworks installed along Avenida Faria Lima, specifically between Alameda Gabriel Monteiro da Silva and Rua Adolfo Tabacow. The exhibition at Casa Bola, curated by Filipe Assis, Claudia Moreira Salles, and Kiki Mazzucchelli, includes approximately 60 works by more than 50 Brazilian and international artists and designers, many created specifically for the space to engage with its architecture. A section dedicated to Longo's career, curated by Fernando Serapião, displays projects, drawings, and models. The event also introduces design releases, such as a new chair by Longo from ETEL and pieces by Claudia Moreira Salles in collaboration with artist Luísa Matsushita. ABERTO Rua aims to bring art into the urban fabric, activating public areas and integrating with locations like the Iguatemi São Paulo shopping center, where works by artists such as Raul Mourão, José Dávila, and Amilcar de Castro are displayed. The platform involves numerous galleries, including A Gentil Carioca, Almeida & Dale, Casa Triângulo, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, Luisa Strina, Mazzucchelli Cardoso, Mendes Wood DM, Nara Roesler, Quadra, Raquel Arnaud, and Yehudi-Hollander & Pappi, showcasing artists like Vivian Caccuri, Sandra Cinto, Erika Verzutti, and Tomás Saraceno. This edition reinforces ABERTO's mission to explore connections between art, architecture, and design while making modernist heritage more accessible in São Paulo.
