Abel Ferrara recites Tinti's poetry before Mantegna's Dead Christ at Brera
On December 8, 2022, the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan will release a video of director and actor Abel Ferrara reciting poems by Gabriele Tinti in front of Andrea Mantegna's "Compianto su Cristo morto" (Lamentation over the Dead Christ). The poems are taken from Tinti's latest collection "Sanguinamenti-Incipit Tragoedia" (La Nave di Teseo). The performance is part of Tinti's "Rovine" project, which features live readings before classical and Renaissance artworks. Previous readings have involved major museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, LACMA, British Museum, Glyptothek Munich, Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, Museo Nazionale Romano, Musei Capitolini, Museo dell'Ara Pacis, and Museo Archeologico di Napoli. Ferrara had recently recited a Tinti poem before an Ecce Homo at the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris. The Brera video was produced with support from Fondazione Cultura e Arte, organized by the museum, and in collaboration with Contemporary Cluster and Hotel Splendide Royal. Mantegna's painting, believed to have been created for his private collection after the death of his two sons, was found in his studio and is now housed at the Pinacoteca di Brera.
