Abdulhamid Kircher's 'New Genesis' Documents Sierra Kiss's Life

Photographer Abdulhamid Kircher's new book 'New Genesis', published by Loose Joints, documents his four-year collaboration with Sierra Kiss, a young mother experiencing homelessness, addiction, pregnancy, and domestic abuse in Los Angeles. The project began in 2022 when Kircher met Kiss and started helping with transport and childcare. The book features intimate photographs and diaristic texts from Kiss's Instagram stories, which Kircher transcribed and edited. Kircher emphasizes the importance of men speaking up for women and credits Kiss as both writer and collaborator. Book and print sales raise funds for Kiss and her family, who plan to leave LA. The project was launched with a panel talk featuring photographer Donna Ferrato, known for her work on domestic violence. Kircher dedicates the book to his mother Maria, reflecting on his own childhood trauma of witnessing abuse.
