Abdul Rahman Katanani: From Sabra Refugee Camp to MAXXI Solo Show
Palestinian artist Abdul Rahman Katanani, 33, presented his work at the Italian Senate in Rome in an event focused on human rights and art, organized by journalist Antonella Napoli. Katanani, who still lives in the Sabra refugee camp in Lebanon, creates sculptures using barbed wire, a material symbolic of Palestinian identity. His work has gained international recognition, with Christie's Dubai auctioning one of his installations for $25,000 in March 2016. In May 2017, he will have his first solo exhibition in Italy at MARCA (Museo delle arti di Catanzaro), followed by a solo show at MAXXI in Rome curated by Achille Bonito Oliva. The Senate event was attended by Senator Roberto Cociancich and Palestinian Ambassador to Italy Dra Mai Alkaila.
