ABC-ARTE Opens Dual Exhibition of Arnaldo Pomodoro in Milan and Genoa

ABC-ARTE has launched a new exhibition project across its Milan and Genoa venues celebrating the artistic evolution of Arnaldo Pomodoro (born Milan, 1926), a master of contemporary sculpture. The project, curated by Luca Bochicchio with scientific contribution from the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, offers an unprecedented reading of the artist's career. In Milan, the exhibition 'Segno e scultura di Arnaldo Pomodoro dal 1950 al 2014' opened March 27 at ABC-ARTE's via Santa Croce space, presenting sculptural works from the mid-1950s to the early 2000s. Rather than a chronological survey, 'De-Rive' explores continuity and rupture across different phases of Pomodoro's work, with sections that challenge temporal boundaries. The title evokes shores, moving seas, and overlapping marks on wet sand, suggesting constant flux and transformation. Art historian Sharon Hecker provides interpretive insights into Pomodoro's nomadism and his continuous search for different techniques and materials. The exhibition highlights Pomodoro's use of cuttlebone as an emblematic material, symbolizing a return to the origins of matter and the incisive gesture linking humanity and nature. Works such as wedges, arrows, and shields occupy space as vibrant presences, forging a geometry that becomes sign and symbol. The monumental quality extends beyond scale to create a dialogue with the surrounding environment, expanding spatial perception.
