Abbondanza-Bertoni's 'Epiphanīa' Dissects the Female Body in New Dance Performance

The Italian dance company Abbondanza-Bertoni premiered 'Epiphanīa. Mi rendo manifesta' in 2025, the second chapter of a trilogy exploring the female universe that began with 'Femina' in 2023 and continued with 'Viro' in 2024. Choreographed by Michele Abbondanza and Antonella Bertoni, the piece is a severe vivisection of the female body, highlighting contradictions in women's perception and self-perception amid stereotyped roles and attempts at emancipation. The performance features original music by Sergio Beercock, lighting by Alessio Luci, and dancers Sara Cavalieri, Valentina Dal Mas, and Ludovica Messina Poerio. The stage is immersed in darkness with heavy curtains, revealing body parts through slits. Creatures emerge wrapped in plastic or tied to cords, moving in unsettling combinations. The work reclaims the female body's autonomy, rejecting objectification. The company, founded in 1989, is known for experimental works like 'Romanzo d’infanzia' (1997), 'Un giorno felice' (2008), 'Le fumatrici di pecore' (2010), and 'La morte e la fanciulla' (2017). Since 2005, they have been based at Teatro alla Cartiera in Rovereto, where they also organize a contemporary dance festival, now in its second edition titled 'Animo!'.
