ABBA Returns to Stage After 40 Years as Digital Avatars in London
After 40 years, ABBA reunites for a digital live performance titled ABBA Voyage at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, now renamed ABBA Arena. The concert, premiering on May 27, 2022, features digital avatars of the band members created by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) of George Lucas, marking ILM's first foray into music. The 90-minute show is already sold out despite ticket prices up to €1,200. The avatars, nicknamed ABBAtar, were created by capturing the band's movements with 200 cameras over a month, assisted by a 40-person team. The digital versions will appear as the youthful band, performing hits like Dancing Queen, Waterloo, and Mamma Mia!. Futuristic costumes are designed by Dolce&Gabbana. A study by Ericsson lists the ABBA Voyage Tour among hot consumer trends through 2030.
