Abandoned doors in Calabrian villages become artworks in PAS project

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Started in 2020, the PAS – Sentiero Porte d’Artista project is focused on turning overlooked doors, windows, shutters, and stairways in small Calabrian villages into permanent art displays. Directed by Massimo Sirelli, it has created artistic trails in Sersale, near Sila National Park, and Vena di Maida, with the newest path just finished in Uria – Sellia Marina. Artists like Antonio Burgello, Marco “Moz” Barberio, and Paola Morpheus have contributed to the Sersale installations. The art in Vena di Maida highlights the village's Arbëreshë heritage, while Uria – Sellia Marina features a work by Manuela “Mauscarf” Scarfone in the historic “Piriceddu” area. The aim is to turn these villages into open-air museums and establish a new route called the Cammino di PAS.
