A24 to produce Anthony Bourdain biopic 'Tony' starring Dominic Sessa
Independent studio A24 will produce and distribute a biographical film about chef Anthony Bourdain, titled 'Tony'. Directed by Matt Johnson, known for the Blackberry docufilm, the movie stars 22-year-old Dominic Sessa, who debuted in 'The Holdovers'. Antonio Banderas is cast in an undisclosed role. The script by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe focuses on a significant episode from 1976, when Bourdain lived and worked in Provincetown, Massachusetts, about two years before enrolling at the Culinary Institute of America. The film does not cover his restaurant career or media fame. Filming is about to begin, with release expected between late 2025 and early 2026. Bourdain's 2000 memoir 'Kitchen Confidential' made him a celebrity, and he later hosted series 'No Reservations' and 'Parts Unknown'. He died by suicide in 2018 at age 61.
