A.M. Qattan Foundation Opens New Ramallah Headquarters with Subcontracted Nations
The A.M. Qattan Foundation (AMQF) will inaugurate its new building in Ramallah on June 28, 2018. Designed by Spanish firm Donaire Arquitectos, the cubic structure in the al-Tireh neighborhood near Nelson Mandela Square serves as a metaphorical lighthouse, illuminated at night to symbolize hope and cultural exchange. The 8,000-square-meter space includes exhibition areas, a library, a restaurant, a cinema-theater, residency facilities, and a multipurpose hall open to the community. The inaugural exhibition, Subcontracted Nations, curated by Ramallah-born professor and critic Yazid Anani, runs from June 28 to September 29, 2018, featuring some forty artists from the Arab world. The show critically examines nationhood and the subjugation of states to macroeconomic forces. Founded in 1993 in the UK, AMQF is an independent nonprofit supporting culture and education in Palestine and the Arab world, with a focus on children, teacher training, and young artists. It established a West Bank office in 1998 and also runs The Mosaic Rooms in London, a cultural space for contemporary Arab culture.
