A.I. Artisanal Intelligence Returns to Rome with The Artist's Table Workshops
The A.I. – Artisanal Intelligence project, curated by Clara Tosi Pamphili and Alessio de'Navasques within Altaroma Roma, returns for a new edition from January 24 to 27, 2019. Held at Basement, the gallery run by contemporary art magazine CURA, the event transforms from a traditional exhibition into a three-day workshop series open to the public without invitation. Titled The Artist's Table, the initiative emphasizes hands-on learning and craftsmanship, inspired by Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopédie. Participants can engage in ceramic techniques with designer-philosopher Andrea Anastasio, sartorial deconstruction with Paolo di Landro of 'Il Riscatto del Capo', and weaving with Livia Crispolti, who trained in Como, Florence, and at the Textile Museum in Washington and curated a space at Archivio Crispolti until 2014. A notable workshop features Le Sorelle Antonini, a 120-year-old historic atelier specializing in hand-pleating, which will bid farewell to the couture scene. Their technique was used for Marilyn Monroe's iconic white dress in 'The Seven Year Itch' and was appreciated by designers like Valentino, Sarli, and Gattinoni. Contemporary art is represented by a double video installation by Ali Kazma, who represented Turkey at the 55th Venice Biennale, focusing on hands and labor in slow craftsmanship.
