A dimora residency brings contemporary art to the Montagna Fiorentina

artist · 2026-04-26

The third edition of A dimora, an artist residency project in the Montagna Fiorentina, culminated on September 14, 2025, with a neon sign relighting the former cinema in Londa, closed since 2020. The temporary illumination accompanied the screening of Andrea Grasselli's work "Cinema sospeso." Promoted by the municipalities of Londa and San Godenzo, funded by PNRR Cultura and co-funded by Future DiverCities (Creative Europe), and developed by LAMA Impresa Sociale, the residency received nearly 200 applications for its first open call. A jury including artist Luca Boffi (Alberonero), Angelo Milano of Studio Cromie, Bruno Barsanti of Fondazione Elpis, Lucia Giardino of GAP, economist Alessia Zabatino, Marina Mussapi of Moleskine Foundation, and Grazia Mappa of Post Disaster selected five artists: Andrea Grasselli, Chiara Gambirasio, Gaia Coals, Martina Cioffi, and Samuel Rosi (Muz). Their works included site-specific sculptures, a projection, and a documentary video. Martina Cioffi's sculpture "Un guscio rotto da un dolore antico, bianco germoglio" will be permanently installed by the municipality near Lake Londa. The residency also reactivated a former hairdresser's shop as a studio in Londa's main square. Curator Martina Aiazzi Mancini noted the project's evolution toward greater artist autonomy and community engagement. LAMA is now planning a compendium and a new initiative at the Riottosa space in Florence's Galluzzo district, starting co-design this autumn.
