A$1M Fund to Fast-Track Australian Musicals in Melbourne

A new fund of A$1 million has been introduced to foster the development of musical theatre in Victoria, Australia. This initiative, co-financed by the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne through the Regent Theatre Trust, allocates half of its resources to projects that focus on Australian narratives. This funding aims to alleviate the challenges faced by the live performance sector, which has seen numerous touring productions canceled. Lord Mayor Nick Reece stressed the importance of supporting local talent. The fund will benefit both established and emerging artists, offering workshops, masterclasses, and opportunities for students. Victorian Minister for Creative Industries Vicki Ward noted the sector's significance for employment and tourism. Works like My Brilliant Career and Mackenzie by Yve Blake are currently showing at Arts Centre Melbourne until 9 August.
