9th Biennale Gherdëina Explores Myth and Global Connections in the Dolomites

festival-fair · 2026-04-22

The 9th edition of Biennale Gherdëina, titled 'The Parliament of Marmots,' will take place from 31 May to 1 September 2024 in Ortisei and Val Gardena, Italy. Curated by Lorenzo Giusti and Marta Paini, the event explores anthropogenic and cultural themes inspired by the Ladin myth 'Kingdom of Fanes.' This biennale showcases 19 new artworks from emerging Italian and regional talents, alongside artists from the Middle East whom Giusti encountered at Art Dubai. Featured artists include Lin May Saeed, Julius von Bismarck, Nadia Kaabi-Linke, Sara Ouhaddou, Nassim Azarzar, Daniele Genadry, Yesmine Ben Khelil, Talar Aghbashian, Andro Eradze, and Katia Kameli. The guidebook will be available in several languages. Giusti emphasizes the political significance of including Middle Eastern artists in light of Italy's far-right government.
