award · 2026-04-27

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra announced the nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards, scheduled for April 25, 2021. The ceremony will be held in person at multiple locations including the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, as reported by Variety. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) modified selection rules due to the pandemic: the Best Picture nominee pool expanded from 10 to 15 films, and eligibility extended to films released by February 28, 2021. Starting in 2024, Best Picture nominees must meet inclusion criteria regarding underrepresented groups. Italy received three nominations: Laura Pausini's song "Io sì (Seen)" from "La vita davanti a sé" for Best Original Song (after winning a Golden Globe), and two for Matteo Garrone's "Pinocchio" — Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Dalia Colli, Anna Kieber, Sebastian Lochmann, Stephen Murphy) and Best Costume Design (Massimo Cantini Parrini). Italian Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini praised the nominations. Notable films include "Nomadland", "Mank", "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom", "Promising Young Woman", and "Minari". Key nominees: Chloé Zhao for Best Director, Chadwick Boseman for Best Actor, Viola Davis for Best Actress. Best International Feature nominees include "Another Round" (Denmark), "Collective" (Romania), "The Man Who Sold His Skin" (Tunisia), "Quo Vadis, Aida?" (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and "Better Days" (Hong Kong).
