economy-finance · 2026-05-05

A survey by Yomoni indicates that 75% of the French population is concerned about a potential social upheaval similar to the Yellow Vests movement if fuel prices increase. The online survey, conducted from April 22 to April 28, 2026, included 3,402 participants. Findings reveal that 40% are saving less due to rising fuel expenses, while 8% have ceased saving altogether. Additionally, 25% can only handle a significant price hike for two months, and 27% find long-term financial planning challenging. Fuel costs are regarded as an indicator of purchasing power, impacting 31% of savers. The first areas to see cuts in spending include leisure (18%), shopping (17%), and car travel (16%). Tom Demaison remarked, "The gas pump has become the barometer of French purchasing power." The survey adhered to GDPR regulations and was adjusted using INSEE data.
