70 Paintings from Der Blaue Reiter at Fondation Beyeler

Fondation Beyeler in Riehen, Basel, presents 'Kandinsky, Marc & Der Blaue Reiter', the largest exhibition on the Blue Rider group in Switzerland in thirty years. Featuring 70 paintings, mostly large-scale, the show includes rare works such as Kandinsky's 'Composition VII' (1913), his largest canvas. The exhibition traces the group's revolutionary painting between 1908 and 1914, drawing from the almanac of the same name. It highlights the exchange of gifts between Kandinsky and Marc, including 'Improvisation 12' (1910) and 'The Dream' (1912). Also featured are works by Gabriele Münter, Marianne von Werefkin, and Alexej von Jawlensky, whose landscapes reflect the impending tragedy of World War I. The show runs until January 22, 2017.
