7 Must-See Shows During the Venice Biennale 2019
A guide to seven exhibitions opening during the 2019 Venice Biennale, featuring Polish conceptual artist Józef Robakowski at MAK Gallery, Roman Opałka at Querini Stampalia, Getulio Alviani at Palazzo Barbaro, Alberto Biasi at Palazzo Ferro Fini, the Africobra collective at Ca' Faccanon, Pino Pascali at Palazzo Cavanis, and Peter Halley at Magazzini del Sale 3. Opałka's 'Dire il tempo' (May 4–July 20 in Milan, May 7–November 24 in Venice) focuses on his lifelong OPALKA 1965/1-∞ program. Alviani's posthumous exhibition 'Anthropometry' (May 9–30) features works by friends and colleagues including Yaacov Agam, Josef Albers, and Lucio Fontana. Biasi's retrospective 'Tra Realtà e Immaginazione' (May 7–July 18) and 'La Materia della Visione' (May 8–June 2) covers his optical-kinetic career. 'Africobra: Nation Time' (May 11–November 24) highlights the Chicago-based Black collective founded in 1968. 'Pino Pascali. Dall'immagine alla forma' (May 9–November 24) reveals newly discovered photographic archives from 1964–1965. Peter Halley's 'Heterotopia I' (May 8–August 10) creates an immersive environment inspired by Michel Foucault's concept.
