exhibition · 2026-04-22

The Carnegie Museum of Art has announced the 61 artists and collectives participating in the 59th Carnegie International, running from May 2, 2026 to January 3, 2027. Curated by Ryan Inouye, Danielle A Jackson, and Liz Park, the exhibition will be held at the museum and four partner venues: the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Kamin Science Center, Mattress Factory, and Thelma Lovette YMCA. Titled 'If the word we,' the theme derives from an essay by Haytham el-Wardany, exploring the shifting meaning of the first-person plural. A record 36 works have been commissioned for this edition, the most in the exhibition's history. The Carnegie International, North America's longest-running recurring exhibition, will feature painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, performance, and theatre, addressing politics, geography, and collective experience amid rapid change. Notable participants include Georges Adéagbo, Dineo Seshee Bopape, Torkwase Dyson, Alia Farid, Beatriz González, Jasleen Kaur, Joar Nango, and Wu Tsang, among others.
