58th Venice Biennale: Georgia and Taiwan Announce Female Artists
The 58th Venice Biennale, curated by Ralph Rugoff and running from May 11 to November 24, 2019, is increasingly dominated by female artists. Georgia will be represented by Anna K.E., who works between New York and Düsseldorf, with a project titled REARMIRRORVIEW, Simulation is Simulation, is Simulation, is Simulation… curated by Margot Norton of the New Museum. Taiwan's pavilion, located at Palazzo delle Prigioni, will feature Shu Lea Cheang's 3x3x6, a multimedia research project exploring prison architecture and surveillance. Other female representatives include Renate Bertlmann (Austria), Eva Rothschild (Ireland), Cathy Wilkes (UK), Laure Prouvost (France), Charlotte Prodger (Scotland), Shirley Tze (Hong Kong), and Italian pavilion artists Chiara Fumai and Liliana Moro, selected by curator Milovan Farronato.
