50 Years of Lupo Alberto: New Volume Celebrates Italian Comic Icon

publication · 2026-04-26

A new volume titled 'Tutto un altro Lupo Alberto' marks the 50th anniversary of the beloved Italian comic strip Lupo Alberto, created by Guido Silvestri (Silver) in 1973. Published by independent house Gigaciao, founded by Sio, Dado, Fraffrog, and Giacomo Bevilacqua, the book collects 30 stories by various authors across 180 pages. Contributors include Dottor Pira, Maicol & Mirco, Spugna, Matilde Simoni, and Roberto D'Agnano. Curated by Lorenzo La Neve and Silver himself, the cover by Francesco Guarnaccia captures the strip's contagious energy. The series first appeared in Undercomic magazine, founded by Bonvi and Bevilacqua, attached to issue 14 of Jonny Logan (Dardo). In 1974 it moved to Corriere dei Ragazzi, then to Eureka (Editoriale Corno). Beyond humor, Lupo Alberto engaged in social campaigns: in 1991 the HIV awareness initiative 'Come ti frego il virus', revived in 2020 for Covid-19. Since December 2022, the comic has been available only online after its print run ended with issue 436.
