5 Outdoor Art Projects in Italy's Red Zones During Pandemic

During Italy's pandemic lockdowns, artists and curators adapted by moving exhibitions outdoors. In Cervignano del Friuli, Egle Oddo's 'Performative Habitats #3' on April 8, 2021, involved planting an evolutionary garden at the Biblioteca Civica Giuseppe Zigaina, part of the 'Liminalità betwixt and between' series curated by Eva Comuzzi and Orietta Masin. The performance was viewable from the street and online, supported by the Italian Council program. In Rome, Andreco's 'Flumen – Climate Actions' resumed on April 10, 2021, with redevelopment and planting along the Tiber, Aniene, and Parco di Veio, culminating in a conference at Palazzo delle Esposizioni on May 7. The Garbatella Images exhibition from April 10–20, 2021, displayed photographic works by six authors in lots 24, 29, 30, and 55 of the Garbatella district, directed by Francesco Zizola and curated by Sara Alberani and Francesco Rombaldi. In Milan, Karim El Maktafi's solo show 'Fantasia' at Other Size Gallery opened April 14, 2021, curated by Giusi Affronti, with outdoor installations using advertising billboards and QR codes. In Bologna, Margherita Morgantin's 'COSINUS (Venti cosmici)' on May 9, 2021, at Orti Comunali Boschetto Lungo Reno, featured windsocks as part of ART CITY BOLOGNA 2021.
