40th EVA International Biennial Opens in Limerick with Gleaners Society Theme
Between August 31 and October 29, 2023, Limerick city celebrated the 40th EVA International, which is Ireland's Biennial of Contemporary Art, focusing on citizenship. Curated by Sebastian Cichocki, the program called 'The Gleaners Society' explores the concept of gleaning as an artistic and political lens. It features more than 45 artworks from artists both local and global, displayed in diverse venues like civic arts centers, a primary school, a cathedral, and a vegetarian café. Cichocki highlighted artists who create social change through simple daily actions. The event also includes Platform Commission pieces from Sarah Durcan, Phillip McCrilly, and others, along with a new installation by Bea McMahon. EVA introduced 'Never Look Back,' showcasing its history since 1977, with support from various collaborators.
