400-year-old Pichwai tradition arrives in Venice
Pooja Singhal, the founder of Pichvai Tradition & Beyond, is set to unveil "From India to Venice," a satellite exhibition linked to La Biennale di Venezia, on Wednesday, May 6, at Palazzo Barbaro. This showcase bridges the four-century-old Pichwai art form from Nathdwara, Rajasthan, with the unique architectural and cultural essence of Venice. Developed in partnership with art historian and curator Elizabeth Royer, who splits her time between Paris and Venice, along with Michele Codoni, the exhibit places this deeply spiritual Indian art within a modern global framework. Pichwais, traditionally hand-painted textiles displayed behind the idol of Shrinathji, illustrate temple rituals, seasonal changes, and sacred landscapes. Over the last ten years, this tradition has achieved worldwide acclaim.
