40 years on: 'Viaggio in Italia' facsimile reprint revives landmark photo show
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Quodlibet has released a facsimile edition of 'Viaggio in Italia.' This initiative was supported by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea del Ministero della Cultura and Mufoco-Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea, in partnership with the Archivio Eredi di Luigi Ghirri. The original exhibition took place in 1984 at the Pinacoteca Provinciale di Bari, curated by Luigi Ghirri, Gianni Leone, Enzo Velati, and Pina Belli D'Elia, alongside Mario Cresci, Arci Bari, and Spazio-Immagine. Featured photographers included Olivo Barbieri, Gabriele Basilico, and others. Accompanying texts were provided by Arturo Carlo Quintavalle and Gianni Celati, with Quintavalle highlighting the work's significance in redefining Italian landscape photography and its conceptual exploration of photography. The collective inquiry approach remains relevant for modern artistic research.
