40 Years of Street Art Lands at Singapore's ArtScience Museum

From January 13 to June 3, 2018, the ArtScience Museum in Singapore will host "Art from the Streets," a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to street art. Curated by Magda Danysz, a gallerist with locations in Paris, Shanghai, and London, who was instrumental in promoting Shepard Fairey in France during the early 2000s, the show highlights 40 years of street art, tracing its origins from the 1970s US counterculture to its current prominence in contemporary art. The museum's 21 naturally lit galleries will showcase works from renowned artists such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey (Obey), Futura, Invader, JR, Blek le Rat, Swoon, and Vhils, along with original murals and archival content. The exhibition also emphasizes Southeast Asian urban art, featuring live performances by local creators. Honor Harger, the museum's executive director, remarked on the transformation of street art into a vital 21st-century art form, moving beyond its graffiti and tagging roots.
