3D digital replica of Mozart portrait unveiled in Verona

A 3D digital replica of the famous portrait of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at age 13, painted by Giambettino Cignaroli, has been created by Haltadefinizione. The replica was presented on January 11, 2022, at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia in Verona, during the fifth conference of the 2021-2022 series promoted by the Direzione Musei Civici in collaboration with the University of Verona and supported by the Friends of the Civic Museums of Verona. The original painting, dated 1770, was recently acquired by a private foreign collector after a heated auction at Christie's in Paris. It depicts Mozart performing in the prestigious Sala Maffeiana of the Accademia Filarmonica di Verona. The painting was previously exhibited at the Museo di Castelvecchio until October 10 as part of the 'Ospiti fuori dal Comune' series. The 3D replica was created using a robotic system developed by Haltadefinizione and Memooria, which mapped the painting's surface with millimeter precision, enabling an innovative 3D printing process that duplicates the physical and chromatic qualities of the original. Luca Ponzio, founder of Haltadefinizione, emphasized the goal of making art accessible to the public through physical or digital replicas. The event marks the 252nd anniversary of Mozart's visit to Verona in 1769-1770.
