36th Premio Pieve in Pieve Santo Stefano Celebrates Diaries and Memory
The 36th edition of the Premio Pieve, titled 'Come pagine bianche', is underway in Pieve Santo Stefano, Tuscany, until September 20, 2020. The prize is organized by the Archivio Diaristico Nazionale, founded in 1984 by journalist Saverio Tutino. Director Natalia Cangi notes that the lockdown inspired the theme, as the archive shared quarantine stories from its collection of over 9,000 diaries, letters, and documents. The edition includes in-person events with web streaming. Highlights include Clelia Marchi's embroidered bedsheet, a 70-year memoir; letters from Countess Emilia; and diaries by artists Valente Assenza and Paolo Schiavocampo. The archive receives about 6,000 visitors annually and has become a national reference for autobiographical writing, with Pieve Santo Stefano known as the 'City of the Diary'.
