35th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts Opens with Prizes and Expanded Venues

festival-fair · 2026-04-22

The 35th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts, titled 'From the void came gifts of the cosmos,' kicked off on September 15, 2023, with Ibrahim Mahama at the helm. The curatorial team includes the Exit Frame Collective along with Alicia Knock, Selom Koffi Kudjie, Inga Lace, Beya Othmani, and Patrick Nii Okanta Ankrah. This event takes place across various sites like an old boiler house and a previous people's kitchen, as well as the International Centre for Graphic Arts and Cukrarna. It features artists from Africa, Europe, and beyond, spotlighting printmaking, film, installations, and performances. The exhibition explores connections between post-independence Ghana and the former Yugoslavia, inspired by Kwame Nkrumah's pan-African vision. Tejswini Narayan Sonawane won the Grand Prize for her woodcut prints, while School of Mutants received the Jury Prize. Additionally, special mentions were awarded to Krater and Soghra Khurasani. A symposium will take place from November 16 to 18, along with a reader edited by Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh and others.
