35-Hour Live Film Buried in Bologna Park as Performance Art
The collective Lele Marcojanni created a 35-hour live film titled 'Temporali' during the ninth edition of the Live Arts Week festival in Bologna, held from June 19 to 27, 2021. The film was shot over nine days, with four hours of daily footage, and was manipulated in real time. At the festival's conclusion, the hard drive containing the film was buried in a park in the Quartiere Barca district along the Reno River, a 20,000-square-meter 'third landscape' of reeds and suburban scrub. The work was conceived as an ephemeral act, intended to be experienced live and then disappear. The festival, also known as Gianni Peng, was organized by Xing and directed by Silvia Fanti and Daniele Gasparinetti, who involved over 50 artists in exploring new performative formats. Notable participants included Isabella Mongelli, Invernomuto, Kinkaleri, and Jacopo Benassi. The festival opened with 'UFO garage bar/band,' a bar counter designed by Canedicoda shaped like a flying object that required attendees to hold it up. Flavio Perazzini of Lele Marcojanni described 'Temporali' as a performative act embracing immediate perspective choices and emotional dynamics, starting with a crew of two and ending with over 16 artists and technicians. The film was buried when it stopped happening, now lying underground in a field along the Reno River.
