festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The 34th Lovers Film Festival, Italy's LGBTQI film festival, runs from April 24 to 28, 2019, in Turin at Cinema Massimo. Directed by Irene Dionisio with artistic consultancy by Giovanni Minerba (co-founder with Ottavio Mai), the festival presents 102 titles, including 10 world premieres, 5 international premieres, 3 European premieres, and 50 national premieres. Actress Alba Rohrwacher serves as godmother. Honored guests include Helmut Berger and Giancarlo Giannini. Berger, an actor favored by Luchino Visconti, will be celebrated with screenings of his films, including Visconti's 'Ludwig' (1973), for which he won a David di Donatello, and 'The Damned' (1969), which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Giannini will discuss his career with Pino Strabioli. Other guests include Monica Guerritore, who will perform at the closing night; musician Samuel (from Subsonica); Drusilla Foer; and Myss Keta. New York filmmaker Ira Sachs, creative consultant for Sundance Director's Lab and professor at Columbia University School of Film, is also expected. His film 'Forty Shades of Blue' won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in 2005. A collateral exhibition, 'Asia Argento. Antologia Analogica,' curated by Stefano Iachetti and organized by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, showcases Argento's photography through self-portraits, faces, and graphic elaborations.
