33rd Biennale Internazionale dell'Umorismo nell'Arte Opens Call with Theme 'La comicità involontaria'

The 33rd edition of the Biennale Internazionale dell'Umorismo nell'Arte in Tolentino, Italy, has launched its call for entries. The theme for 2025 is 'La comicità involontaria' (Involuntary Comedy), announced by new Artistic Director Enrico Maria Davoli. The competition is open to artists worldwide, with no age limits, and accepts up to three works per artist in two sections: one on the given theme and one for caricatures of famous figures. Works can be in any visual art form, including painting, graphics, sculpture, installation, photography, video, and digital media. The biennial culminates in an exhibition from July 12, 2025, to January 6, 2026, in Tolentino, in the province of Macerata. Founded in 1961 by physician and former mayor Luigi Mari, the Biennale is a key international event for humorous art. The jury includes Enrico Maria Davoli (art historian, professor at Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna), Andrea Gualandri (artist and educator), John McCourt (Rector of University of Macerata), Matteo Nannini (painter, illustrator, cartoonist), Ilaria Pezone (professor at Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, filmmaker), Roberto Semprini (designer, architect, university professor, artistic director), and Agnese Tonelli (curator, museum educator, museology expert). The deadline for submissions is May 12, 2025.
