3,437 Books of Epstein Documents on View in New York
A New York exhibition presents the 3.5 million documents released by the US Department of Justice regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case, bound into 3,437 books. Titled the "Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Reading Room," the show is organized by a nonprofit aiming to visualize the scale of the Epstein scandal and honor the victims. The free exhibition runs for about two weeks by appointment only, with many slots quickly booked. Visitors cannot read or flip through the books; organizers say this protects victims whose identities were insufficiently redacted by the DOJ. In addition to shelves of books, the space in southern Manhattan includes an exhibit on the relationship between Epstein and former US President Donald Trump, and a room where visitors can leave notes—messages include "Believe the survivors" and "Unforgivable. Unforgettable." Epstein ran a long-term abuse ring targeting numerous young women and minors, allegedly involving many influential clients. First charges emerged nearly 20 years ago; Epstein pleaded guilty on certain counts. The case was later reopened, and he was rearrested. Before a potential new verdict, Epstein died in his jail cell on August 10, 2019, at age 66. The autopsy ruled his death a suicide.
